Playground to Podium

Playground to Podium is about making sure that disabled young people have the same opportunities to take part in sport as everybody else. Playground to Podium has been developed with a number of partners across the country to help young disabled people progress from PE and community sport to high level performance and competition.

The scheme focuses on six sports:

Pupils with higher sporting ability are identified by their School Sport Partnerships and invited to attend a County Athlete Assessment Day (CAAD) with other higher ability students from across the County.

Athletics equipment now available to borrow

County Durham Sport and England Athletics are working together to improve the provision of disability athletics activity across the County.

County Durham Sport now holds a store of equipment that can be borrowed if you are delivering athletics activities for young disabled people. The equipment includes:

2 x 1.5kg indoor shots
2 x 2kg cast shots
1 x 3kg shot
1 x 750g discus
1 x notched grip throwing ball (400g)
5 x Ratchet straps
6 x Throwing clubs
