Whole Sport Plan

Sport England funds national governing bodies to deliver their three outcomes - grow, sustain and excel and provides additional support to help them achieve this. Each sport has developed a Whole Sport Plan that explains how it plans to achieve these targets. This summary also helps partners identify possible opportunities to work together.

Archery's Whole Sport Plan will be available soon

General information

Archery is a fast growing Olympic and Paralympic sport fun for people of all ages and abilities to take part in. There are many ways you can get involved and progress in the sport as an archer, leader, coach, judge or club volunteer.

Have-a-go events and beginner's courses are regularly organised within clubs, youth groups, schools and holiday camps so even if you have never tried archery before, there are lots of ways to give it a go in a friendly environment.

Archery GB is the sport's governing body in the UK. Since April 2010, Archery GB has been able to assemble a small staff development team as a result of funding from Sport England. This is an exciting time for Archery as the development plan is implemented, which will take the sport to 2013.

The development team is responsible for providing support to developing clubs, supporting schools better to deliver archery and introducing new young people to the sport, and improving the capacity of the sport through the development and support of coaches and volunteers.

Archery GB has signed agreements in place with County Sport Partnerships as they help to support the delivery of archery at a local level. Clubs are central to the Archery GB development plan and it is essential that the resources to support clubs are maximised.

Archery GB has a club development programme, ontarget. Through this programme, ontarget will provide clubs with three main benefits - Recognition, Rewards, Development. All Archery GB affiliated clubs are eligible to join at any time - there is no closing date.

Most counties have a County Archery Association with volunteer members that will be able to support Archery activity and provide advice about getting involved in archery. Some counties also have volunteer County Development Coordinators that are working with the development team to provide support locally.
